Research on Solid Minerals In Nigeria

DARC has always being unrelenting in its passion to build the capacity of the different sector of the Nigerian economy, hence, its lunge into the solid mineral sector in Nigeria. DARC through its STAMP (Support and Technical Assistance for Microfinance Promotion) program sought to enhance the operations of the mining sector; this led DARC to seek a consulting outfit that would research on the supply of formal and informal financing of Artisanal and Small Scale Miners in Nigeria.

Thus, in March 2007, DARC contracted K-REP Advisory Services Limited to carry out a survey for the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development of Nigeria.

K-Rep Advisory Services Limited (KAS) is a consultancy private company based in Nairobi, Kenya. KAS provides consultancy services that facilitate the establishment, growth and development of institutions that provide vital services to their members; thereby, developing a sound management and operating system that ensures efficient delivery of services (www.k-repconsulting.com)

The survey which was funded by the Ford Foundation, involved conducting a detailed demand and supply study on the formal and informal financing of artisanal and small scale miners in Nigeria.

The report of this research is documented with DARC and the Ministry for Mines and Steel development (MMSD).
